It is situated on 98,000 acres of the Taita ranch on the border of Tsavo East National Park. It is the sister camp of Satao Safari Tented Camp (a luxury Mobile camp).
Nestled some 80 feet up on a huge rock kopje, the camp faces a small waterhole where animals come to drink water.
Most days and nights silent herds of elephant come to the waterhole and by digging small wells in the soft sand they gain access to the water below.
Their actions open up this scarce water source to other smaller animals. Satao Rock Camp is only one and a half hours from Mombasa on the 98,000 acre Taita ranch on the border of Tsavo East National Park.
The tents in Satao Rock have been built in true “Satao Safari Style” all having en-suite facilities and flushing toilets.
The camp consists of eight (8) comfortable en-suite twin tents offering spectacular views of many big games such as elephants, leopards and many others. Eight deluxe en-suite tents are built into the edge of a huge rock outcrop with views for as far as the eye can see.
Mount Kilimanjaro is often spotted and it is more than 150 kilometers away! Due to the harsh nature of the terrain virtually no one lives in this area which is inhabited by thousands of animals who survive by knowing where to find water.
The view of this amazing landscape and the populated water hole below will take the guests’ breath away. The camp’s bathrooms have hot and cold running water, electricity and flush toilets.
There is a bar offering brilliant and memorable views and the chefs will do their best to ensure that their meals will give the guests as much pleasure as the view from the dining room.
The waterhole below the bar is often visited by hundreds of elephants, buffalo and other plains game as well as lions, cheetah and leopard among others.
The tents are all brand new and are totally en-suite with the bathroom. Each tent has its own fridge and each verandah has a stunning view of all the surrounding mountains as well as the waterhole below the camp.
Evening sundowners are a specialty of Satao Rock Lodge and the camp has many different places from where it is exceptionally pleasant to drink dawas and champagne as the sun goes down over Kasigau Mountain.
